The Right Side Foundation Hosts Tour of M&T Bank Stadium - Home of the Baltimore Ravens - for Young Men Enlightening Younger Men Organization

The Right Side Foundation today hosted their second “Fun for 21” event of 2010 for a group from the Young Men Enlightening Younger Men (YMEYM) organization. YMEYM was founded in September 2007 by Wesley Brown, a Maryland State Police officer who was shot and killed while working an off duty security detail on Friday, June 11.

The 21 young men from the organization, along with Trooper Brown’s brother Sylvester Brown and State Trooper Sean McCarty – who are now managing the organization – were given a private tour of M&T Bank Stadium and a complimentary lunch provided by ARAMARK in a luxury suite. Nick Markakis greeted the boys, took photos with them on the field and signed autographed baseball cards for everyone who participated.

“It was a fun afternoon at M&T Bank Stadium with the guys from Young Men Enlightening Younger Men,” said Markakis. “I hope that with the recent tragedy that affected each of them, today offered a relaxing and great experience they will remember for a long time.”

Young Men Enlightening Younger Men is a nonprofit organization in Prince Georges County, Md. Their goal is to enlighten youth through exposure to community services, educational programs, self empowering initiatives, and leadership skills.

This was the second of six “Fun for 21” events scheduled for 2010. The Right Side Foundation is planning to host one event per month with local nonprofit organizations aligned with the mission of the organization, which is to help improve the lives of distressed young people throughout the State of Maryland.

“Our young men had a great time today. For most of them this was the first professional stadium they’d ever been to, so they were in awe of the place,” Trooper Sean McCarty said. “We greatly appreciate the generosity and support from Nick and Christina Markakis, along with The Right Side Foundation, ARAMARK and the Ravens. “Officer Brown would have been extremely proud of his organization today and happy these young men were given this experience they will never forget.”

The “Fun for 21” program was created by Nick and Christina to offer select groups of 21 (Nick’s jersey number) youth with an experience that enables them to forget about the obstacles in their lives and enjoy the fun of being young.
